This is my land acknowledgement.
Edmonton - or Amiskwaciwâskahikan in Cree - is a diverse city with many different peoples, but we need to remember whose land we are on; it is Indigenous land. Edmonton has been a home to and a gathering place for Cree, Metis, Nakoda, Dene, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe peoples for many thousands of years, far before Europeans ever arrived here. I recognise the traumatic history of colonisation and genocide and its impact on the Indigenous peoples of this land, and I intend to work towards reconciliation and an Edmonton that values and respects the history, way of life, and sovereignty of the Indigenous peoples that we share the land with.
